Although we are not members of the Public Relations Consultancy Association (PRCA) at the moment, we at Aspectus PR totally support its campaign to ban unpaid internships within the PR industry. Indeed we have had a policy of paying our interns at least the minimum wage – sometimes rather more – for a very long time now.
We could rant about this issue until the cows come home. But rather than that, let’s just say that we feel that any PR agency that systematically exploits young people by routinely taking them on as unpaid interns should be condemned. They damage the standing of the whole industry. We applaud the PRCA’s campaign and wish for the day when this odious practice is made illegal.
