Water has been a hot topic of conversation at the Aspectus London office this week, not because of the tedious amounts of rain we’ve been bored by, but because of the far more exciting Draft Water Bill.

DEFRA stated that “Government seeks to slash red tape, drive innovation and open the market to new companies.” The overhaul, which the government describes as “ambitious” will mean water companies will have to work hard to communicate the benefits of their offering in the midst of growing competition.

Water companies face communications challenges at the best of times, for example successfully communicating the need for water conservation despite heavy rain. Water is also an incredibly emotive issue – far more than other utilities, which we can survive without.

We are watching with interest to see what happens to the bill.
