Billed by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) as its ‘widest reaching, longest, and most lucrative competitions’, the energy efficient computing competition for feasibility funding is now underway and should certainly spark a flurry of innovation across the UK. And those with an energy efficient solution, whether it’s for mobile devices, embedded chips, parallel computing, or the data centre, need to hurry to register their interest (deadline is noon on Wednesday).

The Energy Efficient Computing Special Interest Group, which is a partnership between the Technology Strategy Board, the ESP KTN and the ICT KTN, is a useful resource for those committed to furthering energy-efficient computing.

In a climate where the cost of energy continues to rise almost as fast as demand for new gadgets, we face a pressing challenge in terms of securing our future power supply and meeting environmental commitments – critical issues that the controversial energy bill is trying to address.

TSB’s competition therefore presents a real opportunity for UK businesses and entrepreneurs to demonstrate their innovations in the IT engineering space and we look forward to seeing the new solutions emerge.
